Editorial: Stable funding for open source software?
Oliver Goldsmith said, ‘Where wealth accumulates, men decay’: this should make many programmers of free open source software some of the healthiest people on the planet. One can only aspire to be of independent means and become what the Victorians might have called ‘A gentleman bioinformatician’; after all, if you’re going to have delusions you may as well have really satisfying ones. The reali...
متن کاملProjectQ: An Open Source Software Framework for Quantum Computing
We introduce ProjectQ, an open source software effort for quantum computing. The first release features a compiler framework capable of targeting various types of hardware, a high-performance simulator with emulation capabilities, and compiler plug-ins for circuit drawing and resource estimation. We introduce our Python-embedded domain-specific language, present the features, and provide exampl...
متن کاملOpen-source Security Software Security for Open-source Systems
S ome people have claimed that open-source software is intrinsically more secure than closed source, 1 and others have claimed that it's not. 2 Neither case is absolutely true: they are essentially flip sides of the same coin. Open source gives both attackers and defenders greater analytic power to do something about software vulnerabilities. If the defender does nothing about security, though,...
متن کاملConstrained basin stability for studying transient phenomena in dynamical systems.
Transient dynamics are of large interest in many areas of science. Here, a generalization of basin stability (BS) is presented: constrained basin stability (CBS) that is sensitive to various different types of transients arising from finite size perturbations. CBS is applied to the paradigmatic Lorenz system for uncovering nonlinear precursory phenomena of a boundary crisis bifurcation. Further...
متن کاملFisPro : An open source portable software for fuzzy inference systems
FisPro also allows the complete design of a fuzzy inference system from the numerical data related to the problem under study. Many automatic learning methods unfortunately lead to "black box" systems. In FisPro, constraints are imposed to the algorithms to make the reasoning rules easy to interpret([16]), so that the user understands how the fuzzy system operates. This novel approach is one of...
